Tajikistan: Renewed focus on disaster preparedness

Reporting on recent rumours of earthquake, a journalist highlights a call for increased public awareness and highlights disaster preparedness and early warning initiatives in Tajikistan. Many interviewed called for greater public awareness and education initiatives.

Col. Alisho Shomakhmadov, director of the Information-Analytical Center of Tajikistan’s Committee on Emergency Situations and Civil Defense said, "Regrettably, people are not striving to learn how to protect themselves and their families in extraordinary situations... We need to pay more attention to educational programs at all levels, from kindergartens to universities. And we need to attract the media to this work."
