While the worst flooding in decades affected at least 58 provinces of Thailand between July and December, social media turned out to be not only at the heart of mass communication, but also played a vital role in disaster response and last minute preparedness, reports CRS Asia. A series of ten short animated movie clips, initiated by two 26-year-old Thai animation entrepreneurs, "Roo Su Flood" (Know, Fight Flood) showed how to handle the situation when the water arrived: comparing the billions of cubic-meters of water to Blue Whales managed to put on a little smile even during the hardest times. The clips were distributed through YouTube and other online movie sharing and social networking sites.
