Thailand fully ready for 6th AMCDRR

Bangkok - Thailand has expressed readiness to host the 6th Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) from 22-26 June 2014 @ CentralWorld in Bangkok. The country will use this oppornity to explain its current situation under the administration of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry of Interior M.L.Panadda Diskul on Thursday held a press conference on the 6th AMCDRR, saying that more than 2,500 delegates from 63 countries would attend the conference aimed at discussing disaster risk reduction and seeking cooperation on the matter. As for Thailand, the conference would also serve as a stage to elucidate the reasons for the NCPO's role in running the country.

Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Chatchai Phromlert said the conference this year stressed on promotion of investment for disaster preparations and recovery. Thailand would share its success in the 2011 flood crisis as well as the recent earthquakes in Chiang Rai with the meeting and would take lessons from other countries, the official said.
