Bangkok - Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Theera Wongsamut has indicated that the repair work on flood prevention facilities on the west side of the Chao Phraya River has been completed by 90%.

Mr. Theera today led his entourage and press members to the west bank of the Chao Phraya River to inspect the repair of 14 irrigation buildings as part of the flood prevention effort. The Minister expressed his confidence that the completion will be achieved by the end of August as planned.

According to Mr. Theera, the repair works on 5 of the buildings have been finished while 90% progress has been made on the other 9 places. In addition, he said the overall flood prevention system on this side of the river is now ready for operation, except for the surrounding landscape which still needs a final touch.

Meanwhile, although Tropical Storm Vicente, which is weakening and moving towards Vietnam, may increase the amount of rain in Thailand, the Minister assured that there will not be any major flood problems in the country, given the reservoirs in the North still have a remaining capacity of more than 55%. However, people living near waterways are encouraged to be cautious of possible flashfloods.
