The Uganda Red Cross Society on September 30, 2011 handed over a disaster risk reduction project that enhanced sustainable climate change adaptation, improved access to safe water and addressed flood and drought risks to the communities of Wera Ssub County in Amuria and Kapujan Sub County in Katakwi.

Training was also provided: 126 community based disaster risk reduction groups were formed and trained in conducting community risk assessments, project planning and management and community action planning, and 14 community based volunteers were trained in conducting vulnerability capacity assessments/community risk assessments.
