The Environment Agency has launched a campaign to urge residents and communities in the flood affected Sussex region of the UK to be prepared for potential flooding, reports The Argus.

The Agency proposed to spend £5 million on flood defences on the east bank of the river and a further £10 million of work is already planned for the west bank. The four-week campaign will feature a different theme each week: damage and safety, flood risk and warnings, resistance and resilience and community preparedness. Flood fairs, a flood exercise, a tour of the Worthing forecasting centre and the launch of a three-week coastal flood defence project will be part of the campaign too.

“By working closely with local and well-trusted organisations in Sussex, we are able to communicate more effectively with homeowners at risk of flooding," said Andrew Gilham, the Agency's flood and coastal risk manager.
