USA Today's reporter, Scott Martin looks at recent moves by technological experts to develop ways to warn people about imminent natural hazards through mobile devices and game consoles, further to the spate of destructive tornadoes that hit the U.S. recently.
"Right now, the government is finalizing its gateway and working with the wireless carriers," said Brian Josef, assistant vice president for regulatory affairs at wireless association CTIA. "There's a lot of coordination and a lot of moving parts to make sure it works without hiccups."
"There was a text-messaging system in place for the Japan crisis, so a lot of people were able to get a message a few minutes before the tsunami hit," founder Mike Draghici said. "We see the need for it."
