Viet Nam: Kien Giang needs US$44 mil to cope with climate change

The US$44 million will be sent on building sea dykes, a mud fence and restoring and developing 100 ha of coastal mangroves. Although 39 per cent of the Mekong Delta is expected to be flooded by the end of this century if sea levels rise by one metre, many localities are not ready to build their own climate change action plans, reports Vietnam Net.

UNDP Resident Representative Louise Chamberlain advised Viet Nam officials to manage public finance to stimulate private sector investment in climate change plans since the State budget alone would not be sufficient while the national and international private sector held vast amounts of investment potential and modern technology.
