A housing design prescribed by architects for post-Katrina New Orleans may be adapted to flood prone areas in the Philippines according to architect Jason Buensalido of Buensalido Architects.

Formed by the actor Brad Pitt further to the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2006 New Orleans's Lower 9th Ward, the Make It Right (MIR) Foundation aims to build over 150 houses within 14 blocks using "green" design principles pitched by architectural firms all over the world.

It's just as simple as designing a raft. It's just as simple as putting a house on a raft. So you know, it's really possible," said Buensalido. He added that they are looking for partner organizations who are open to building floating houses, like Gawad Kalinga and My Shelter Foundation (which works with disaster management networks). They are even considering pitching the idea to President Arroyo of the Philippines directly.
