The Assam Tribune reports that Keeping in view the paradigm shift in disaster management today that is looking into all aspects including recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has proposed many measures to the Planning Commission with particular reference to vulnerable regions like the North East.

"Since earthquakes do not come with a warning, it is important that the government adopts a programme of regular mock drill," said National Disaster Management Authority vice chairman S. Reddy pointing out that it was also very essential to adhere to the building code to minimize loss of life during an earthquake.

Some of the media persons suggested that the government should create a data base to keep the media update on the various steps initiated by the government in disaster management.
