Malawi, a country very much affected by extreme weather events and climate change, is working on its National Climate Change Policy (NCCP), reports Nyasa Times. The Environmental Affairs Department (EAD) of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Management invited NGO’s and governmental experts to contribute to the consultative process of the document which will address climate adaptation and mitigation issues. Health, food security and water are some of the topics taken into consideration.
“Specifically, the document aims at identifying a list of priority activities, formulating priority adaptation options, building capacity for adapting to longer-term climate change and variability, and raising public awareness on the urgency to adapt to the adverse effects of extreme weather events,” according to EAD.
