Bangladesh: Natural calamities big threat to development

In a meeting with UN Special Representative of the Secretary General for Disaster Risk Reduction Margareta Wahlström, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stated that the government of Bangladesh attaches top priority to capacity building for disaster risk reduction and resilience, reports The Daily Star. She added that to fight climate change impacts, the government has been engaged in adaptive measures for disaster-risk reduction and sought international cooperation in the initiatives of construction of flood and cyclone shelters, flood resistant houses and coastal embankment.

Ms Hasina has been invited to attend the fourth session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva in 2013.
