Climate change is raising the sea level and it is making coastal communities more vulnerable to flooding. It also increases storm frequency and intensity. Two professors writing in The Boston Globe contemplate the options to minimize climate change effects: constructing sea walls, investing in resilience and making coordinated plans for managed retreat are some of the options that they suggest.

Richard W. Murray is professor of earth and environment at Boston University and a selectman in Scituate. Daniel P. Schrag is a professor of geology and director of the Harvard University Center for the Environment.
