"Public–private partnerships are essential to ensuring that critical infrastructure and utilities are disaster proof or resilient enough to function during an emergency. Cities and towns need to have the organisation and coordination in place which allows for the participation of citizen groups and civil society," said UNISDR chief Margareta Wahlström at a recent roundtable hosted by AECOM and IBM. The event brought together representatives from the private sector and local, state and federal government to discuss the adoption of best practice disaster resilience measures across Australia, reports The Fifth Estate.
