Taiwan's National Center for Research Earthquake Engineering (NCREE) announced that it is working to help enhance the seismic resistance of earthquake shelters and disaster relief facilities and is developing an app that will speed up the response time of rescue workers.

"The NCREE will also develop an app to assist emergency first responders and speed up rescue efforts after an earthquake," NCREE Director Chang Kuo-chun Chang said.

When the quake hit southern Taiwan last month, the NCREE sent out mobile phone messages within one minute to inform disaster prevention and rescue personnel of the possible casualty numbers and disaster locations, which helped speed up the emergency response, Chang said.
