Zimbabwe: Early warning critical in drought mitigation

Jeffrey Gogo writes that the current unpredictable rainfall patterns in Zimbabwe, compounded by unreliable observations from climate meteorologists, requires policymakers to establish early drought warning and tracking systems to minimise damage and create resilience in the event of one.

'There is still need to promote a hands-on approach to utilising climate forecasting tools, use bottom-up and participatory processes in project design as well as the need to develop institutional capacities and policy frameworks at national and local levels', the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) told the Herald of its project.
