The French Association for the Prevention of Natural and Technological Disasters (Association Française pour la Prévention des Catastrophes Naturelles et Technologiques) was created in 2000 to continue the action of the French Committee of the International Decade of Natural Disasters (DIPCN), as a national centre for cross-disciplinary and multi-risk collective reflection on the issue of natural risks and a recognized player in international cooperation in this field.
Supported by the Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition (MTES), AFPCNT brings together scientists, experts, academics, national and local elected officials, local authorities, associations, companies as well as representatives of the State.
Based on this experience and faced with the new global context of risks and the rapid evolution of governance at all levels, the AFPCNT aims to constitute a permanent cross-cutting and multi-risk platform of actors involved in the prevention and management of disaster risks and the reduction of their consequences.
Disaster Reduction Goal
AFPCNT thinks it is profitable for the nation to anticipate and prevent human risks and economic damage that can result in disasters. It considers that, closer to the realities on the field, the behavior of the population, economic agents and public authorities must evolve towards a better awareness of the risks and an exercise of individual responsibility. Its aims are to identify the right motivations for an effective "act together".
To achieve these objectives, AFPCNT has built and is giving birth to a center of reflection and collective impulse. This center is a reference for all the problematicss related to natural, systemic and global risks.
1 - AFPCN offers its expertise in the preparation and evaluation of environmental decisions, whether technical, social or financial regulatory instruments.
2 - AFPCN deploys its activity at all geographical and administrative levels and in the stages of crisis prevention, crisis management or crisis repair.
3 - AFPCN contributes to research programs, support and valorisation of results.
4 - AFPCN develops in international cooperation with French reflections and benefiting from research and feedback from other countries.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
