This consultancy led by Randolph Langenbach, F.A.A.R. is focused on *Heritage *Conservation with a particularly focus on the performance of buildings subject to *earthquakes. The work includes the documentation and analysis of buildings of traditional construction - particularly of *masonry and *timber *construction - around the globe. It has also included the analysis of buildings of other types of construction from earth (unfired clay), or 100% timber, to steel and reinforced concrete.
-Earthquake Risk Reduction
-Research and consulting in: *Turkey, *Afghanistan, *Iran, *Pakistan, *India, *Italy, *Portugal.
Increase broad awareness of comparative building performance by increasing peoples' understanding of what contributes to earthquake resilience - particularly in buildings of unsophisticated and unregulated construction - and thus reduce the risks to life and property, while also helping people reclaim their right and ability to build their own houses in a safe manner.
International research and consulting for clients including UNESCO, The Turquoise Mountain Foundation, UN-HABITAT, the Global Earthquake Model (GEM), and the World Monuments Fund.
Randolph Langenbach is a former Board Member of US/ICOMOS, and is an ongoing member of the ICOMOS International Scientific Committees ISCARSAH and ICORP.
The underlying philosophy of this consultancy is that wide differences in construction quality in most environments are inevitable, and that particularly in rural and developing urban environments, the common forms of building construction should be able to sustain such variations at the low-quality end without becoming the inevitable death traps as has recently been experienced with many buildings of recent construction in earthquakes.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
