Green Alternative is a non-governmental, non-commercial organization, founded in 2000 in Tbilisi, Georgia. The mission of Green Alternative is to protect the environment, biological and cultural heritage of Georgia through promoting economically viable and socially desirable alternatives, advocating for environmental and social justice and public involvement in the decision making processes. Green Alternative is currently active at national, regional and international levels.
Thematic priority areas of Green Alternative include: energy – extractive industry – climate change; transport sector and environment; privatization and environment; biodiversity conservation; waste management; water management. Cross-cutting priority areas are: environmental governance; public access to information, decision-making and justice; instruments for environmental management and sustainable development; monitoring of the lending of the international financial institutions (IFIs) and international financial flow in Georgia.
Green Alternative is advocating for integrating DRR into development and environmental management policies, and for strengthening environmental and natural resource management tools, i.e. addressing the underlying root causes through improved natural resources management and protection of environment.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
