For the Indian Ocean region, Jakarta Tsunami Information Centre (JTIC) was established as the information hub for the region on tsunami-related issues. However during the 8th session of the ICGs for the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System in Melbourne, Australia, (3-6 May 2011), the member states supports the expansion of the JTIC role into a wider and regional based responsibility. The purpose of the expansion from JTIC to IOTIC is to support the common public in preventing, preparing and mitigating measures for tsunami across the Indian Ocean region.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
