Mission

CIAT is a not-for-profit organization that conducts socially and environmentally progressive research aimed at reducing hunger and poverty and preserving natural resources in developing countries. CIAT is one of the 15 centers that make up the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research.

The organization has no registered commitments.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.

Dramatic rainfall changes for key crops expected even with reduced greenhouse gas emissions

A new study reveals that by 2040, 14 percent of land dedicated to wheat, soybean, rice and maize will be drier due to reduced rainfall even if Paris Agreement targets are met. 31 percent of land in some areas will be wetter. The study has revealed the stunning rate of global precipitation changes, with some regions already crossing historical averages.
