Established in 1984, Island Press is a nonprofit publisher that focuses on ecology, conservation, natural history, and the built environment. Inspired by the worsening effects of climate change on major population centers, Island Press created the Urban Resilience Project (URP) to inform and inspire others to take action to address the urgent risks that climate change impacts present to cities. Who is most vulnerable to climate impacts, how severely their lives are affected, and how they recover when disaster strikes is closely linked to existing inequality. URP works with practitioners, authors, and "on the ground" activists to share their stories about the efforts that are making communities more sustainable, equitable, and resilient.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
