Mission

The NIBS is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that successfully brings together representatives of government, the professions, industry, labor and consumer interests, and regulatory agencies to focus on the identification and resolution of problems and potential problems that hamper the construction of safe, affordable structures for housing, commerce and industry throughout the United States.

The organization has no registered commitments.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.

USA: National Institute of Building Sciences issues interim report on the value of mitigation

The National Institute of Building Sciences has issued the next report in its multi-year study on the benefits of investing in hazard mitigation. The report reveals that complying with the 2018 International Residential and Building Codes can save as much as US $12 for every $1 invested, with benefits affecting all building stakeholders.
