The university carries out extensive basic research within biotechnology, biology, natural resource management, green technology and mathematical modelling of biological processes and climatic change. Other R&D projects on the university grounds deal with applied science. Research carried out by the university covers animal science, agricultural engineering, landscape architecture and landscape planning, plant-, food-, forest-, soil and water sciences. The University comprises of seven Departments, all of which are involved in teaching and research in developing countries, and the Centre for International Environment and Development Studies (Noragric).

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
