The SMC Spain is an independent office that provides the media with resources, reliable content, and expert sources to cover science-related news. Set up by the Spanish Foundation of Science and Technology (FECYT), SMC Spains is part of an international network of SMCs that started in 2002.
The SMC Spain aims to enhance science media coverage with context, expert sources, and the best available evidence. When science generates controversy on the news agenda, the SMC Spain responds quickly with 'reactions' from expert sources that help put the news in context. The topics SMC Spain covers can originate from research results (which we find out about before they are published, through the embargo system of scientific journals) or from current affairs (statements, crises, announcements, etc.). SMC Spain also publish articles written by specialists: ‘expert voices’ columns and explainers written by members of the editorial staff, called ‘what we know’.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
