Since 1978, the responsible ministries of the The Netherlands, Denmark and Germany have been working together on the protection and conservation of the Wadden Sea covering management, monitoring and research, as well as political matters: Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, The Netherlands; Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, Germany; Minister of the Environment, Denmark.
The Trilateral Governmental Conferences which are held every 3-4 years, is the highest decision making body in the framework of the collaboration. In the periods between the Governmental Conferences, the Trilateral Working Group (TWG), as a permanent working group, meets on average, 2-3 times a year. The TWG is composed of civil servants of the responsible ministries and other relevant ministries as well as regional authorities.
The Common Wadden Sea Secretariat (CWSS) was established in 1987 in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, as the secretariat for the trilateral cooperation.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
