The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.

Viet Nam: Peace of mind in the path of storms

With support from the Green Climate Fund, UNDP and the Vietnamese government are this year building more than 1,300 storm resilient houses, and are planting and regenerating 1,300 hectares of coastal mangroves. The project will help ensure Viet Nam reaches the Sustainable Development Goals, and has contributed to safer, more secure lives for vulnerable families.

Improving resilience of vulnerable people affected by Typhoon Damrey through building resilient houses

Quang Nam province, supported by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Viet Nam Disaster Management Authority (VNDMA), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Republic of Korea, in partnership with the Viet Nam Red Cross Society, held a ground-breaking ceremony for the first 5 of 80 resilient houses in Quang Nam Province.

UNDP supporting response, resilient recovery to floods and Typhoon Damrey’s impacts

In early November, typhoon Damrey made landfall in Viet Nam and has since impacted 10 provinces and caused widespread flooding. More than 4 million people are affected, including 350,000 poor. UNDP supports the government of Viet Nam in responding to Damrey, and actions for preparedness and response have been taken in some central provinces.

Disaster preparedness education saves more lives

A campaign on tsunami awareness and disaster prevention in schools was launched last week in Hanoi, targeting young students to become future communicators in disaster prevention. The Government of Viet Nam has also approved a plan to establish a tsunami alert system for high risk areas, in order to warn people and authorities in the event of a tsunami.
