UN-SPIDER is a programme of the United Nations to provide universal access to all types of space-based information and services for disaster management by: being a gateway to space information for disaster management support, serving as a bridge to connect the disaster management and space communities, and being a facilitator of capacity-building and institutional strengthening. UN-SPIDER is in the process of building an interactive knowledge portal to provide access to relevant information and stimulate information exchange. The programme organizes international and regional events to bring together disaster management and space communities, and is active in raising awareness on the use of space-based technology and information for disaster management. It supports UN member states wishing to enhance their use of space technology for disaster management through technical advisory missions and facilitates capacity building activities.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
