Weir-Jones Engineering Consultants is founded in 1971 to provide specialized instrumentation and testing services in the field of geomechanics. Weir-Jones has expanded their capabilities in the areas of data acquisition and system design. The application of their expertise has been extended into the fields of marine and ground transportation systems, structural engineering, mining equipment, offshore systems, and contract research and development work for both civilian and defense clients.

ShakeAlarm® was introduced in 2008 as an Earthquake Early Warning System in conjunction with British Columbia Ministry of Transport. ShakeAlarm® is a highly-reliable solution which provides critical minutes or seconds of warning in order to minimize loss of life and assets.
In the next 12 months, Weir-Jones will integrate the following actions into their daily activities in order to promote and establish disaster risk reduction (DRR) values and strategies within British Columbia, Canada, and on a global basis wherever required.
Weir-Jones will design and deliver non-technical seminars and workshops to increase DRR awareness for schools, hospitals and community centers.
Weir-Jones will design and deliver technical and audience-specific seminars for provincial and federal management authorities. In addition, knowledge and technical consultation services will be shared with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) if required.
Weir-Jones will promote UNDRR events, publications and plans on their website.
Weir-Jones will share their scientific publicatons, results and information with the DRR community via PreventionWeb.
Weir-Jones Engineering Consultants is a member of the Disaster Risk Reduction - Private Sector Partnership (DRR-PSP) and has committed to the 5 Essentials for Business in Disaster Risk Reduction.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
