Youths Against Disaster Initiative (YADI) is a non-governmental, non-profit disaster management and public safety advocacy organization. YADI works towards educating and informing the youths on disaster risk reduction (DRR); by supporting and enhancing their participation in disaster planning, preparedness, prevention, mitigation, and response.
“To build a disaster resilient society and enhance public safety by improving the youths’ capacity and ability to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies, disasters, and threats to the nation”
1. To create a framework for sensitizing and enlightening the youths on public safety, security consciousness and disaster risks management across the country.
2. To educate and empower youths on public safety, disaster risk reduction, especially in preparing, responding and mitigating natural and man-made disasters through effective collaboration with stakeholders.
3. To provide youths with comprehensive information and resources necessary for public safety and disaster management.
4. To ensure the youths at community level are aware of ways of mitigating the adverse effects of disaster.
5. To organize, facilitate and participate in workshops, conferences, seminars, lectures on various aspects of disaster management.
6. To assist government established disaster management institutions on effective implementation of their national and states disaster management plans.
7. To collect, compile, document and disseminate data, information, case studies, indigenous knowledge and good practices relating to disaster management.
8. To develop educational materials on disaster management for various individuals, groups and institutions.
9. To organize training and awareness programmes for the youths at secondary, tertiary and post-tertiary institutions on disaster risks management.
10. To embark on publication of journals, research papers and books and establish and maintain online resource centre on Disaster Risks Reduction.

YADI’s issues focus include: public awareness campaigns, capacity building, and volunteerism during emergency situations, collaborative efforts with relevant stakeholders on public safety and disaster risk reduction.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
