2009 synthesis of Resident Coordinator annual reports
This document describes some of the critical ongoing work of the United Nations development system to support countries meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and their own national development goals, including efforts towards sustaining progress and mitigating risks through, for example, support for conducting analysis and interventions to assess the impact of the economic and food crises on the most vulnerable. It reports on the integration of disaster risk reduction into strategy and programme formulation processes and strengthening of climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts, featuring the 2010 earthquakes in Haiti, Chile and China, the floods in Brazil and the drought in the Western Sahel.
It also highlights the achievements under the international mandate and framework for disaster risk reduction 'Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2015: Building the Resilience of Nations and Communities to Disasters', as well as the progress made towards reducing disaster risk through the '2009 Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction: Risk and Poverty in a Changing Climate'.
