ACCCRN: responding to the urban climate challenge

This publication is intended for cities and decision-makers looking for practical processes and examples of how to build urban climate resilience. It addresses how cities can manage the stresses and respond to the inevitable shocks and surprises of climate change like sudden onset natural hazards such as floods, extreme rainfall events, and urban heat waves, while assuring the wellbeing of their growing populations.

The guidebook describes the Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (ACCCRN) activities in helping cities and their citizens build flexible and dynamic systems and institutions that identify and respond to the challenges climate change poses to urban areas. It aims to assist partner cities (Vietnam: Can Tho, Quy Nhon, Da Nang; India: Gorakhpur, Surat, Indore; Indonesia: Semarang, Bandar Lampung; Thailand: Chiang Rai, Hat Yai) to develop resilience strategies and associated implementation proposals. It features case studies in which the ACCCRN city and country partners document the steps they are taking to identify city specific climate vulnerability, their vulnerable populations, and the points of entry in exploring resilience strategies and action plans.
