Aceh flood: damage and loss assessment
In late December 2006, widespread flooding struck eastern and central Aceh and parts of neighbouring North Sumatra province, affecting seven Acehnese districts. Government requested that a damage assessment be carried out in affected areas to assess the damage and to better design post‐emergency assistance.
This report provides a summary of data collected in the flood assessment. The report provides information on: (i) affected locations and people; (ii) estimates of damage and losses; (iii) impacts by district. The total damage and losses caused by the flood are estimated at US$ 210 million or Rp. 1.9 trillion, mostly concentrated in infrastructure and housing and the productive sector. The report also provides a detailed assessment of human needs all around the region after the disaster.
