Adaptation, gender and women’s empowerment
This working brief addresses the importance of gender in climate change adaptation in CARE's work for empowering the most vulnerable women and men to achieve climate-resilient livelihoods and reduce disaster risks. It assesses: (i) the influence of gender on the vulnerability to climate change; (ii) the way to incorporate gender-transformative activities in adaptation strategies; (iii) the possibilities to apply a women's empowerment framework to incorporate gender-transformative activities in adaptation policies and programmes. It finally presents (iv) a women’s empowerment framework and climate change adaptation.
