Adapting to climate change in the food industry
This report addresses how adaptation to climate change is necessary to protect the food chain and the United Kingdom’s food security today and in the future. Most UK businesses do not have a plan to adapt to climate change specifically but there is a need for it to be incorporated within a company’s corporate social responsibility agenda. According to surveys presented in the report, over half of the businesses said that climate change was considered in its investment decisions, especially when constructing new buildings and renewing and replacing existing assets such as machinery; the aim of this was to limit energy usage and therefore reduce costs. The report presents insight gathered during a series of qualitative interviews which helped design actionable recommendations that build a case for change in the industry and provide guidance and further actions for organisations supporting food businesses.
