Australia: Northern Territory of Australia disasters act
This act provides for the adoption of measures necessary for the protection of life and property from the effects of disasters and emergencies. Section 15(a) provides a general necessity for the territory director to obviate or alleviate an actual or imminent occurrence. Other provisions relating to disaster risk reduction include: section 15(j) which creates a duty to conduct research on counter disaster measures; section 15(k) which creates a duty to arrange counter disaster education programmes; section 26 and section 32 which establish a need for different committees to assist in the preparation of a counter disaster plan; and section 47 which briefly discusses livelihoods.
