Background and components of disaster risk reduction
This paper means to provide background information on disaster risk reduction for humanitarian aid staff members who are not or only to a minimum extent familiar with disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness, but who have to deal with this precautionary approach in their day-to-day work. The paper also does not intend to replace expert knowledge. It rather tries to create a level of expertise among the staff that allows them to decide, at what stage such expert knowledge is necessary and what type of expert advice needs to be looked for.
