The Beijing declaration on South-South cooperation for child rights in the Asia-Pacific region

This declaration lays out a number of commitments countries will work towards to advance the rights of the nearly 1.2 billion children in the Asia-Pacific Region. It focuses on regional cooperation in three key areas: (i) disaster risk reduction; (ii) child protection and welfare systems; and (iii) ensuring that economic and social development is equitable and reaches all children. It calls for governments to increase cooperation to ensure that practical measures for child-friendly disaster risk reduction are integrated into community-based efforts.

This declaration is the outcome document of the High Level Meeting on South-South Cooperation for Child Rights in the Asia-Pacific Region, held with UNICEF's support on 4-6 November 2010 in Beijing, China, by the delegations of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Kiribati, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Republic of Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vanuatu and Viet Nam.
