Building community resilience to disasters in upland areas of Viet Nam: lessons learnt
This document presents the lessons learnt from the implementation of a community based disaster risk management (CBDRM) project working with ethnic minority communities in the upland areas in Viet Nam. It aims to record and disseminate experiences, results, and best practice derived from the project activities. It is intended for government, NGOs, and other development practitioners who are specifically interested in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) within upland areas and with ethnic minorities.
In particular, this document describes the practices and lessons learnt from three interlinked DRR areas: (1) Awareness‐raising on disasters in ethnic minority communities; (2) Early Warning Systems (EWS) in upland areas; and (3) Hazard mapping in upland areas. For each topic, the following information is provided: (i) Background description of the DRR area; (ii) Why the project worked on this area; (iii) How the project implemented this area; (iv) What the project learned from implementation; and (v) How this implementation compares with how other organizations work on this area of DRR.
