Catastrophic event handbook
The National Emergency Management Agency Te Rākau Whakamarumaru has released the first version of the Catastrophic event handbook. The Handbook is a milestone for New Zealand and it provides a blueprint to respond to the most severe disasters. It outlines roles and responsibilities by agency, across 11 workstreams in order to manage an All-of-Government response to a catastrophic level event.
The handbook takes a hazard-agnostic approach to the response and recovery aspects of a catastrophe. It is scalable, and it allows for hazard-specific plans to be developed under this framework, such as the National Space Weather Response Plan.
