Climate risk country profile: Liberia (2024)
This profile is part of a series of Climate Risk Country Profiles developed by Climate Change Group of the World Bank Group. This country profile aim to present a high-level assessment of the climate risks faced by Liberia, including rapid-onset events and slow-onset changes in climate conditions, many of which are already underway, as well as summarize relevant information on policy and planning efforts at the country level.
Liberia has made significant economic and development progress since the end of its civil war in 2003, however the country’s situation remains fragile due to its high levels of poverty with limited access to basic services such as water, sanitation, and energy. High reliance on climate-sensitive activities renders Liberia vulnerable to climate variability and change, expected to manifest in higher temperatures, more extreme weather events such as heavy rains, and rising sea levels.
