Climate vulnerability and capacity analysis
This document presents an overview of a methodology providing a framework for analysing vulnerability and capacity to adapt to climate change at the community level. It prioritises local knowledge on climate risks and adaptation strategies in the data gathering and analysis process, and combines good practices from analyses done for development initiatives and those done within the context of disaster risk reduction. It is intended to be used and adapted to gather and analyse information to design climate change adaptation initiatives, as well as to integrate climate change adaptation issues into livelihoods and natural resource management programmes.
The document presents a set of guiding questions for analysis of information at national, local and household/individual levels, and provides guidance on facilitating a participatory process for multi-stakeholder analysis and collaborative learning. It is designed to feed into and strengthen planning processes by providing vital, context-specific information about the impacts of climate change and local vulnerability. It can also provide practical evidence for advocacy on climate change issues.
