Committing to child-centred disaster risk reduction: an opportunity at the World Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction
This document summarizes World Vision's policy, in partnership with key child-centred organizations, for the third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, in their advocacy for the inclusion of children and their needs in the post-2015 Framework for DRR. In its statement World Vision specifically asks that the framework includes: (i) Children's participation; (ii) Establishing or reinforce child protection legislation; (iii) Making school safe from disasters; (iv) Building life skills and ensure access to knowledge and information; (v) Ensuring that all children, especially the most vulnerable have access to quality services; (vi) Increasing accountability and (vii) Taking up risk-informed development planning.
World Vision is determined to ensure that in addressing disaster risk, the well-being of children is always the first priority. The World Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) in Sendai, Japan, March 14-18, 2015 is the opportunity to advocate for what Resilient Future Children Want.
