This technical brief clearly explains “the why” and “how” of using a community managed approach to disaster risk management, and introduces some of the instances in the Horn of Africa where it is states that it has been put to good effect to create resilient communities. It also identifies key lessons learnt for other practitioners, and provides some recommendations for building on the approach.
