Corps hurricane response: the Corps is prepared...are you?
Hurricane season: June 1-November 30, 2010
This document presents the Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System (HSDRRS) to be completed by the US Army Corps of Engineers in New Orleans as meteorologists predict an active 2010 hurricane season for the Gulf of Mexico. Through a detailed map of New Orleans, it highlights the areas of the system that are better prepared as well as the most vulnerable ones, and the actions to be taken to reduce the vulnerability of unfinished areas.
The map encompasses metropolitan New Orleans and gives the status of each area of the city. It invites citizens to check the status of the system in their neighbourhood and to learn more about the type of construction work that is ongoing or planned for any given area, as well as the scope of that work. At the end, a note from Commander Col. Al Lee addresses a recent criticism of the New Orleans District’s role in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill response.
