Disaster response and climate change in the Pacific

This research paper examines the nexus between disasters, human health, and climate change in the Pacific in order determine methods of effective disaster response in a changing climate to enhance long term adaptive capacity. The aim of this paper is to identify gaps in post-disaster support and to disseminate information regarding those gaps among policy-makers so as to establish a society more resilient to disaster.

The research, including workshops and interviews conducted in Australia, Fiji, Cook Islands, Vanuatu, and Samoa, focuses on four main post-disaster humanitarian needs: (i) health care; (ii) food and nutrition; (iii) water, sanitation and hygiene; (iv) and psychosocial needs.
