Disaster risk awareness and preparedness of the EU population: Austria
The survey on disaster risk awareness in Austria shows that citizens feel most vulnerable to extreme weather events (39%), followed by health emergencies (33%), and political or geopolitical tensions (28%). While they generally trust public authorities for disaster risk information, their level of trust is lower compared to other European Union countries. However, their trust in emergency management agencies is comparable to the EU average. Despite this, Austrian citizens demonstrate a higher level of awareness and preparedness for disasters than their European counterparts.
This survey assesses the awareness of EU citizens about the disaster risks that could affect them, their preparedness to face various disaster risk scenarios, and the reliance they place on a range of actors in disaster situations. The survey also explores the engagement of EU citizens in voluntary work to increase disaster resilience.
