Disaster risk awareness and preparedness of the EU population: Slovenia
This survey on disaster risk awareness and preparedness in Slovenia reveals that citizens feel most vulnerable to extreme weather events (48%), followed by floods (32%) and geological disasters (22%). Slovenians show high awareness of disaster risks and generally trust public authorities for related information, primarily relying on national media, family and friends, and emergency management agencies. They also report taking more preparedness measures than other Europeans across all response types and demonstrate higher-than-average trust in public authorities. Despite concerns about specific risks, Slovenians' proactive preparedness efforts and trust in authorities provide a solid foundation for effective disaster response and resilience.
This serial survey assesses the awareness of EU citizens about the disaster risks that could affect them, their preparedness to face various disaster risk scenarios, and the reliance they place on a range of actors in disaster situations. The survey also explores the engagement of EU citizens in voluntary work to increase disaster resilience.
