Displacement due to natural hazard-induced disasters: Global estimates for 2009 and 2010
This study finds that 17 million people were newly displaced by sudden-onset disasters worldwide in 2009, and over 42 million people in 2010. To meet this challenge, the study recommends that greater collaboration is required between those working in the fields of humanitarian action, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and development. It states that accessible information and analysis are needed to inform coherent and consistent policy and action by governments and organisations who have responsibilities, mandates or roles to play in addressing this global challenge.
