Education disrupted: Disaster impacts on education in the Asia Pacific region in 2015 (summary)
This report explains the continuing impact that disasters have on education by profiling the 2015 earthquakes in Nepal. The findings reveal that:
- In countries where earthquakes caused large-scale disruption such as in Nepal, many children lost months of education.
- Almost a year after the eartquakes, children are still being taught in temporary learning centers that were meant for use for weeks or months, not years.
- There are significant gaps in information from the education sector on both the short- and long-term impact disasters have on education.
Save the Children has compiled a full report (this being the summary), with recommendations to national governments, donors, regional and global platforms, and humanitarian and development partners.
